Nuggets of Wisdom: Oswald Chambers

Just a small list of my favorite quotes from Oswald Chambers...

A man with the vision of God is not devoted to a cause or to any particular issue; he is devoted to God Himself. You always know when the vision is of God because of the inspiration that comes with it; things come with largeness and tonic to the life because everything is energized by God.

Worship is giving God the best that He has given you. Be careful what you do with the best you have. Whenever you get a blessing from God, give it back to Him as a love gift. Take time to meditate before God and offer blessing back to Him in deliberate act of worship. If you hoard a thing for yourself, it will turn into spiritual dry rot as the manna did when it was hoarded. God will never let you hold a spiritual thing for yourself, it has to  be given back to him that he may make it a blessing to others.

God does not tell you what He is going to do; He reveals to you Who He is.

Prayer is the exercise of drawing on the grace of God.

Do not look for God to come in any particular way, but look for Him. That is the way to make room for Him. Expect Him to come, but do not expect Him only in a certain way. However much we may know God, the great lesson to learn is that at any minute He many break in. We are apt to overlook this element of surprise, yet God never works in any other way... Keep your life so constant in its contact with God that His surprising power ma break out on the right hand and on the left. Always be in a state of expectancy, and see that you leave room for God to come in as He likes.

Patience is more than endurance. A saint's life is in the hands of God like a bow and arrow in the hands of an archer. God is aiming at something the saint cannot see, and He stretches and strains, and every now and again the saint says--'I cannot stand anymore.' God does not heed, He goes on stretching till His purpose is in sight, then He lets fly. Trust yourself in God's hands. Maintain your relationship to Jesus Christ by the patience of faith.

Beware of being obsessed with consistency to your own convictions instead of being devoted to God. The important consistency in a saint is not to a principle but to the divine life. It is easier to be an excessive fanatic than it is to be consistently faithful, because God causes an amazing humbling of our religious conceit when we are faithful to Him.

When obedience is in the ascendant, He will tax the remotest star and the last grain of sand to assist you with all His Almighty power.

We always know when Jesus is at work because He produces in the commonplace something that is inspiring.

The saint who satisfies the heart of Jesus will make other saints strong and mature for God.
